A technique in Neuro Linguistic Programming that is well known and is said to be powerful to use because an impact can be immediately felt is called Anchoring. This technique makes use of anchors or stimuli that people can use to help trigger certain emotions by repetitive exposure to that anchor to achieve the desired state of mind associated to it. By hearing, touching or seeing this anchor, the person can immediately put himself or herself into a state of happiness, confidence, and also overcome fears.

Neuro Linguistic Programming teaches us that the first step in anchoring method is by putting ourselves in a specific state of mind that we would want to remember in the future. Past experiences that has allowed him or her to be in that state of mind should be recalled. When you're trying to reach that state of being, you have to visualize intently and even immerse all your senses into the experience.

The time to create the anchoring is the moment of peak emotional states. An anchor is created by linking the state to any of the senses, touch, hearing, smell, sight with an anchor on touch being the most effective. Sense of touch is the strongest sensory tool for the average guy and it is this that makes touch a very good Neuro Linguistic Programming anchor.

Once the anchor is formed and ready, the cycle is stopped abruptly by the person breaking off and thinking of something else. The anchoring process can be repeated to further embed it on the subject's psyche. In the future, everytime the anchor is set off, the person's state of being is replaced with that of the anchor's.

The hardest part in the anchoring process is getting into the desired state in the first place, sometimes remembering past experiences and reliving it is harder than simply constructing a new scenario out of thin air. Everyone who has succeeded in anchoring has said it is one of the easiest NLP techniques there is. Everything in Neuro Linguistic Programming is about the mind, using it in ways a person has never done before, so at first it may seem hard but it definitely gets easier.

Anchoring is simply one of the methods employed in Neuro Linguistic Programming to take control of your mind. There are tons more techniques in NLP that can sometimes be more effective and powerful in impacting a person. In the end, anchoring is a great way to start of on your NLP journey.
